Snowflakes are a beautiful part of the winter season and as such they are also a big part of all design associated with winter and especially Christmas.
There’s just one little detail. Snowflakes can only have 6 sides (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowflake for the wikipedia overview and http://www.keplersdiscovery.com/SixCornered.html for an extended essay and )
For some reason, not all designers know or care about this and the Christmas landscape is littered with examples of 8-sided and other freakish physically impossible snowflakes.
i know this is a minor issue in the big picture, but there is something that REALLY irks me about so-called professionals not getting this kind of detail right. As such, their work should be called out and ridiculed publicly.
I have no interest in making fun of children’s crafts or other private individuals interpreting snowflakes however they please.
My hope is that by raising the issue we can eventually rid the world of sub-standard snowflakes in graphic, web, interior and any all other types of design.
So join the campaign, post examples of snowflake fails and consider this a cathartic way to get past the 8-sided eyesores and enjoy all that winter has to offer.
